A Look back  2006

Films that I found to be major surprise :

Barnars - Was a much better film than I first felt it would be.  Not your typical love story.  Ashmit Patel was able to carry off his role much better expected.  Urmila Matotka in a role that required lots of acting abilty. She was made the role believeble.

Sardar Peresh Rawal - broke the mole when he played. The role of Sardar Patel. A historical figure during the Gandhi reign in India and after during the days that followed Partition.  Paresh is the consummate funny man.  But here he is serious.

Omkara Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor - give a wonderful portrayl in this modernism version of Ohtello. If you are one of those that never could find relavance in Shakespear try watching this version of the classic.

Taxi 9211 John Abraham, Nana Patekar - A most unlikely duo at frist glance. But a wonderful on screen teaming of talents.  Each step of the way you wonder what is it that bonds these two verey different men.  The special features on the DVD are worth watching.

Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana - A fun romp though the lives of 4 women who are friends.  Three of whom are married and one still single who has prompted a bet that she wont marry until she's 25.  The others who are alwasy losing to this lucky girl plot to make her lose her frist bet but will she lose her heart and love as well.   You have to watch it to see.  Rekha shows she is still queen of the drama and screen.

Fanaa - The long awaited  return of Kajol to the big screen with a new on screen hero.  Amir and Kajol are magic on screen in this story of a sightless girl Zooni and her trip to Delhi and the world.  A rare teaming of these two screen big stars and an even rarer fact that both sing a few of thier own songs in this film. There are moments in the travels around delhi with the comic bus driver playing out heros of bollywood films.

Rang De Basanti- A wonderful modern Bhgat Singh story within a story of the modern day youth of India and thier feeling of disconnection from the histroic India in the face of the modern computer age and life of the rich and very poor.  This film is one that will light a fire in the hearts of those who watch it.
